Health

About
This is a recipe book for the Zone Diet that our family has used for over 25 years to maintain healthy weight. The kids loved Zoned Strawberry Smoothies for breakfast and so did I!

About
Fructose can be hard to find in your local grocery store, so I started buying this online. Even if you buy a different size or brand, you can show your support by starting with one of my Amazon Affiliate links and then buying whatever you need.

About
We prefer unflavored whey protein isolate. This is the brand my wife buys at Walmart, but the price is similar on Amazon. It is not cheap, so if you buy a different size or brand, you can still show your support by starting with one of my Amazon Affiliate links and then buying whatever you need.
Hip Essentials

About
I call it the “invisible dog walker” and it is invaluable for moving your “dead weight” operative leg after surgery, for getting in and out of bed, etc. It is very important that it be rigid and the foot loop should also be rigid to make it easier to insert your foot.

About
These are the perfect size for your hip. Get two so you always have one in the freezer ready to go.

About
I have heard good things about this ice pack and it looks better fitted and easier to strap on.

About
There are many brands of ice machines, but I had a Breg Polar Ice machine. Make sure to get a pad large enough to cover your hip. A large rectangular pad worked well for me.

About
This is a slightly less expensive model, but there are also less expensive brands. If you buy a different brand after clicking this link, I’ll still get credit.

About
I bought these for my 78yo mom after her hip surgery and wish I had them after my hip surgery because it is not easy getting up and down from the toilet without using your operative leg (which is a No No!).

About
My mom used this after her hip surgery. We have purchased several of these for both my mom and my dad. We think they’re the best!

About
You need grabbers to pick stuff up off the floor. You need two grabbers so you can use the second grabber to pick up the first grabber when you drop it!

About
This was a life saver for me after hip surgery! I used it in the car, in chairs, etc. Heck, I would bring it with me when we went to church or visited friends. And two years post-op I still like using it on occasion.

About
Got swelling? I wish that I had one of these post-op instead of building my own Pillow Pyramid.

I read somewhere that using walking sticks transfers 30% of the load from your legs to your arms. So I used these when hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu two months before hip surgery, post-op after I graduated from crutches, and six months after surgery when I hiked the Camino Santiago in Spain. Good for fending off overly frisky dogs too!

About
If you are a side sleeper, a body pillow is often recommended after hip replacement surgery to provide support and help maintain proper sleeping positions, which can aid in recovery and prevent complications. I’ve used one for years to support my arm/shoulder even before hip replacement.

About
When you can’t take your trusted Body Pillow with you, this has served me well on many trips including tent camping while backpacking to Machu Picchu!

About
This new generation of hyper-evaporative cooling towels worked better than expected and helped my mom stay cool while walking on hot days.
